This afternoon, leaders of the labor movement gathered at the White House to meet with President Biden and Vice President Harris about our shared goal of revitalizing America’s infrastructure. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka (UMWA) led the delegation of labor leaders that included AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler (IBEW); North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey (IUPAT); Laborers (LIUNA) General President Terry O’Sullivan; Operating Engineers (IUOE) General President James Callahan; Electrical Workers (IBEW) International President Lonnie Stephenson; Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) General President Kenneth Rigmaiden; United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) General President Mark McManus; Ironworkers General President Eric Dean; and Machinists (IAM) International President Robert Martinez Jr. At the meeting, Trumka told Biden, “It’s not just lip service when you call yourself a ‘union guy.’ And that’s why we know—and you know—that we must build back better with unions.”
